After a visit to Antwerp, Doyen was influenced by Peter Paul Rubens, as displayed in his Le Miracle des ardents (The Miracle of The Fervent), painted for the church of Saint-Roch in Paris. Doyen exhibited the painting in the Salon of 1767.
