A silverpoint portrait, depicting the Dutchman in fine lines, testifies to the encounter of Dürer with the famous painter Lucas van Leyden during his journey to the Netherlands. The portrayed man, who soon became a friend of Dürer's, is gazing out of the picture alertly. The drawing was used in 1572 as a model for the engraved portrait of Lucas van Leyden in Hieronymus Cock's portrait series Pictorum aliquot celebrium Germaniae inferioris effigies, confirming the identification of the portrayed man.
