Johann Stabius left Ingolstadt in 1497 and took up his residence in Vienna as professor of mathematics; he became court astronomer to the Emperor. Dürer made geographical works for him.

In the corners are four astronomers: Aratus Cilis, Ptolemaeus Egyptius, Manilius Romanus, Azophi Arabus. Above the upper border line in Gothic lettering: Imagines coeli Septentrionales cum duodecim imaginibus zodiaci.
