This high quality painting formerly was given to Claude Lorrain as a Battle of Lepanto, or A Combat between Turks and Venetians, and was dated c. 1655, or 1630-50, respectively. Since 1959, it is attributed to Gaspard van Eyck, pupil of Andries van Eertvelt, a marine painter.
