The Beheading of John the Baptist

This painting is an early work by Carel Fabritius. It is one of the most appealing religious pictures of the 1640s to come out of Rembrandt's circles, and a great example of Rembrandt's legacy as a teacher of dramatic staging and the study of naturalistic effects.
