Flowing curved gables conferred their most distinctive Baroque appearance on the architecture of façades in the later seventeenth century. Church architecture, for which this type of façade had been developed in the first place, played an important role in the architecture of private houses. A good example of this is offered by the domestic architecture in Mechelen, where the strong sculptural treatment of the volutes, and also of the framework surrounding some of the windows, can be linked with the contemporary activity of Lucas Faydherbe.
Huis De Korenbloem (The Cornflower House) in the Katelijnestraat in Mechelen has a Baroque façade by Faydherbe, and an old wooden side façade, one of the two houses in Mechelen that still has a visible early sixteenth-century timber construction in the side wall.
