Lavinia Fontana, the daughter and pupil of Prospero Fontana, a decorative painter, was much esteemed in her day as a portraitist. This painting was commissioned from her by Scipio Borghese. The date 1613 was brought to life by the restoration in the early years of the twentieth century.
