FRAGONARD, Jean-Honoré

The few authentic portraits of Fragonard, including several self-portrait drawings, record the artist at an old age. An early nineteenth-century account describes Fragonard in later life as "plump, podgy, dapper, always bright and cheerful, he had fine rosy cheeks, sparkling eyes, a tousled mat of grey hair."
