In this painting the influence of Giovanni Bellini is distinctly noticeable, however it is set in an archaic context, which fits well with the style of Francesco di Simone da Santacroce. The present work may have been created in the first decade of the 16th century, a period with known and documented works by Francesco di Simone, such as the Annunciation from 1504 (Accademia Carrara, Bergamo) and Virgin with Child and Saints in the Church of San Pietro Martire in Murano (1507).
