Parau Hanohano (Terrifying Words)
1892
Watercolour, 151 x 212 mm
Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University, Cambridge
This work was a gift for Gauguin's first friend at Tahiti, the sailor Paulin Jénot. He painted also a large picture of the same subject, however, the composition was so much changed that there is no relation between the painting and the watercolour.
