This drawing is a study for the painting "When Will You Marry?" now in the Öffentliche Kunstsammlung, Basel as a loan from a private collector. The figure returns later in several other compositions by Gauguin.

Gauguin's companion at Tahiti, Tehuráé, was the model of this drawing.
