The Italian humanist and poet Agnolo Poliziano - here with his student Giulio, the orphan of Giuliano de' Medici who was killed in the Pazzi conspiracy - was a professor of Greek and classical languages. Her wrote odes and elegies in Italian, Greek and Latin, and introduced textual criticism to the classical literary studies. Poliziano died in the same year as Ghirlandaio.
