The only surviving fragment of the medieval choir screen in the church of Santa Chiara is a series of eleven relief panels depicting scenes from the life of St Catherine. Currently residing in the Museo dell'Opera di Santa Chiara, these were badly damaged during the Allied bombing of Naples in 1943.
These scenes are composed of eleven marble panels, which include the following episodes: The death of King Constus, St Catherine with a hermit, the mystical marriage of St Catherine, St Catherine with Emperor Maxentius, the incarceration of St Catherine, the dispute with the Emperor's wise men, the martyrdom of the converted wise men, the death of the converted Empress, the torture of St Catherine, St Catherine and the broken wheel and the beheading of St Catherine.
