GIOVANNI DI FRANCESCO DI PIERO
(b. ca. 1425, Firenze, d. after 1498)

Carrand Triptych

1450s
Tempera on panel
Museo Nazionale del Bargello, Florence

This triptych representing the Virgin and Child with Sts Francis, John the Baptist, Nicholas and Peter is now in the Museo Nazionale del Bargello but formerly was part of the Carrand collection, hence its name. The provisional name of the artist who created it was the Master of the Carrand Triptych. This artist was thought to be the Florentine painter Giovanni di Francesco del Cervelliera. However, according to recent research, this master was identified as another Giovanni di Francesco, namely Giovanni di Francesco (Franco) di Piero.
