Study of a Flying Sparrow

1515-20
Red chalk and gouache, 138 x 168 mm
Nationalmuseum, Stockholm

This sheet has been cut down but it is of a piece with the parrot studies, executed in the same technique. Giovanni da Udine, a specialist painter of animals and still-life details, created these drawings to serve as a model book for repeated use.
