St Jerome Pulling a Thorn from a Lion's Paw

1452
Fresco
Cappella di San Gerolamo, San Francesco, Montefalco

The altar painting is framed on either side by two scenes from the life of St Jerome. The scene, customary since the 12th century, in which St. Jerome pulls a thorn out of the paw of a lion asking for help is a symbol of the superiority of Christian charity.
