Cupola with panoramic view of the sanctuary

This cupola decoration was painted by Bartolomeo Guidobono and Enrico Haffner in one of the free-standing chapels on the grounds of the Santuario della Misericordia near Savona. The cupola fresco presents a bird's-eye view panorama of the pilgrimage site as though the ceiling were open and the painter standing at the level of the cornice were looking down at pilgrims streaming toward the church below.
