Landscape with River
1778
Oil on canvas, 64,5 x 88,5 cm
Szépművészeti Múzeum, Budapest
This painting is an imaginary landscape, based on the Prussian artist's Italian experiences. The circular church is a bow to classic antiquity while the herd of goats and the shepherds resting under the tree are the representatives of the bucolic ideal.
