Portrait of Amalia von Hesse-Kassel

1656
Oil on canvas, 110 x 91 cm
Private collection

Amalia von Hesse-Kassel (1626-1693) was the daughter of William V, Landgrave of Hesse-Kassel and Amalia Elizabeth von Hanau-Münzenberg. The portrait reflects the influence of Hanneman's contemporary, Anthony van Dyck. Both artists worked in England during the 1630s and may well have had contact there.
