HERRERA, Spanish family of artists

The illuminator and engraver Juan de Herrera Aguilar worked in Seville in the second half of the 16th century, although documentation on his life and career is scarce. His son Francisco de Herrera the Elder was active primarily in Seville. The latter's son Francisco de Herrera the Younger also worked in Seville and Madrid, becoming one of the most important Spanish Baroque artists.
