Charitas

1543
Woodcut
British Library, London

In 1543 Holbein drew an inscribed CHARITAS sign for the Netherlandish Protestant book printer Reynold Wolf, who worked in London. This took the form of an apple tree whose fruits could be harvested by the 'children of God.'
