This signed and dated painting portrays Lady Bowyer, half length, wearing a green dress with ribbons and a pearl necklace, in a sculpted cartouche. Lady Bowyer (Hester Aucher, died 1665) married in 1632 Sir Edmund Bowyer (1613-1681), an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1660 to 1679.
