KENSETT, John Frederick
(b. 1816, Cheshire, d. 1872, New York)

Lake George

Oil on canvas, 56 x 87 cm
Museo Thyssen-Bornemisza, Madrid

Kensett painted the landscape of Lake George on numerous occasions, capturing the different seasons and the changes of light and nature. The present work depicts the brilliant colours of an autumn day, in which the golden light is complemented by the red of the leaves which are just about to fall.
