KONINCK, Daniël de
(b. 1668, Amsterdam, d. after 1720, London)

Portrait of a Man

-
Oil on canvas, 65 x 52 cm
Private collection

This portrait shows a man, half-length, wearing a plumed turban and gold embroidered red cloak with a white shawl. Depictions of men dressed in exotic finery with turbans made up a significant portion of de Koninck's oeuvre with several existing paintings by him that are similar to the present attributed work. In his 'oriental' portraits, de Koninck appears to take inspiration from Rembrandt.
