A Party at the Duc d'Orléans

1843
Watercolour heightened with gouache on paper, 350 x 572 mm
Private collection

The Duc d'Orléans, wearing the Légion d'Honneur, is standing by the chimney. On the lower right, the woman sitting may be Madame Forster, famous dancer at the Opéra. Wearing a beautiful gown and facing us as she sits is Hélene de Mecklembourg-Schwerin, Ferdinand-Philippe d'Orléans' wife. Amongst the crowd on the right is a man with a turban, probably a spahi. Finally, on the right, a man wearing a goatee moustache standing by the chimney may be general Lamoriciere.
