Palazzo Dario: Façade

Canal Grande, Venice

This Gothic palace was restored in 1487 by Pietro Lombardo. The compositional arrangement abandons the traditional tripartite system for a different arrangement. Remarkable feature is the opulence of the cladding in green porphyry, smooth granite and coloured cut stone, decorated with discs, wheels and interwoven motifs. The building represents a unique example in terms of the extensive decoration.
