Calle de la Laca, Venice

The building of the confraternity was built on the site of an earlier edifice. The confraternity commissioned Pietro Lombardo to build its new headquarters. The work lasted from 1474 to 1481.

The doorway leads into an open courtyard, the first example of Renaissance urban design in Venice. The portal is surmounted by a lunette with an eagle grasping the Gospel in its talons: it symbolizes John the Evangelist, the confraternity's patron saint. The classical structure is completed with two windows with triangular pediments and decorated pilasters.
