LUINI, Bernardino
(b. 1480, Luino, d. 1532, Milano)

Portrait of a Lady

1520-25
Oil on canvas
National Gallery of Art, Washington

Working in Milan, Luini was a close follower of Leonardo da Vinci. His facial types, soft forms, and atmospheric effects (sfumato) are all derived from Leonardo, and illustrate the great influence of that master on contemporary artists.
