Holy Women at Christ's Tomb

c. 1490
Tempera on wood, 126 x 66 cm
Christian Museum, Esztergom

The subject derives from the Gospel according to Matthew (xxviii: 1-7). On the first day of the new week, the three holy women, Mary Magdalene, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary the wife of Zebedee, came to Christ's tomb.

The protagonist in the painting is Mary Magdalene in the centre who is also represented in the background scene of Noli me tangere wearing the same dress.
