The present work can be assigned to the oeuvre of an anonymous painter known as the Master of the Madonna Lazzaroni. The small altarpiece with its ornamental drapery can be dated to around 1380. It is comparable to other works attributed to this painter, such as the triptych in the Fondazione Cini in Venice, and the panels in the Crespi Collection (Museo Diocesano) in Milan.
