MASTER of the Mascoli Altar
(active 1425-1450 in Venice)

View of the Chapel

c. 1430
Mascoli Chapel, Basilica di San Marco, Venice

The Master derives his name from the marble altarpiece and antependium in the Mascoli Chapel, San Marco. In the altarpiece the three figures stand on pedestals beneath a typically Venetian superstructure framed with acanthus leaves. In the antependium two kneeling angels cense the Cross.
