Head of Ecclesia

1272
Marble
Museo dell'Opera del Duomo, Ravello

The picture shows the head of Ecclesia from the the pulpit of the Gospels, located on the right of the central nave. The pulpit was created in 1272 by Nicola di Bartolomeo da Foggia. In the past the bust was placed on the entrance arch to the pulpit itself.

Some scholars attribute the bust to Nicola di Bartolomeo da Foggia as the bust of Sigilgaida Rufolo, wife of the patron of the pulpit.
