This sandstone figure is on the buttress of the Angel Choir of Lincoln Cathedral. It was suggested - without any justification whatever - that it represented Edward I's second wife, Margaret of France. Investigations established that the head is original, dating from the time when the statue - otherwise restored in the 19th century - was made. It is one of the few English Gothic sculptures of high quality to have survived.
