Three discrete scenes fill this rectangular French Renaissance marble slab, three above and three below. Jupiter occupies the prime position at top centre. To his right, the figure of the god Mercury flies toward him. The upper right section of the relief represents an ideal city with a circular temple in front of finished and ruined buildings.
This relief resembles closely the work of an unidentified carver or atelier employed about 1549-52 at the chapel of the Château d'Anet, south of Paris.
