She holds Jesus in her lap as he turns the pages of a devotional book. In the background, two figures, distracted by the world, seem unaware of the angels praying nearby.
A number of works painted around 1500 in the southern Netherlands, characterized by delicate foliage, have been ascribed to an anonymous painter named Master of the Embroidered Foliage. They may, however, have been painted by different artists, possibly trained in the same workshop.
