Portrait of an Italian Woman

1500-33
Oil on linden panel, 43 x 33 cm
Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York

This painting was formerly attributed to Albrecht Dürer due to a (false) AD monogram scratched into the bodice of the sitter. However, the painting is a German copy after a follower of Leonardo da Vinci. It was copied from an engraving executed by an unknown artist in northern Italy.
