MICHELANGELO Buonarroti (b. 1475, Caprese, d. 1564, Roma) |
Study of an Inclined Head1529-30Red chalk, 355 x 270 mm Casa Buonarroti, Florence | |
This beautiful head study is a preliminary drawing for the head of Leda in the painting Leda and the Swan, which the artist created for Alfonso I d'Este, Duke of Ferrara. Michelangelo drew the profile study after a living male model wearing a tight-fitting workshop cap. Despite studying the head on a living model, the artist gives it an idealised appearance. |
