Martin van Meytens settled in Vienna in 1730. Two years later he was appointed Kammermaler and became the principal portrait painter at the imperial Court. His self-portrait from c. 1745 depicts the successful court painter of the imperial family. In the physiognomy and style of self-presentation it corresponds with the self-portrait from c. 1741 in Budapest.
