MOMPER, Joos de
(b. 1564, Antwerpen, d. 1634/35, Antwerpen)

Winter Landscape

c. 1620
Oil on oak panel, 58 x 82 cm
Private collection

This painting depicts travellers passing through a village in winter. The figures were painted by Jan Brueghel the Elder - Joos de Momper's friend and frequent collaborator. The crisply drawn figures by Brueghel complement perfectly Momper's own distinctive handling.
