Two landscapes depicting Montgeron belonged to the decorative series commissioned by Ernest and Alice Hoschedé, Monet's friend who lived in that small town. This is one of the few paintings from that period that the artist created in the studio from a preliminary sketch. Nonetheless, it display the typical Impressionist lightness, as seen in the shades that dissolve in the air.
