Tomb of Julius II (detail)

Between 1542 and 1545 Montelupo worked on the over life-size statues of the Virgin and Child, the Prophet and the Sibyl for the upper register of Michelangelo's tomb of Julius II in San Pietro in Vincoli. Possibly, he also worked on Leah and Rachel flanking the statue of Moses.

Rachel and Leah represent allegories of the Contemplative Life and the Active Life respectively. The picture shows the statue of Rachel.
