The Gobelins Manufactory, established in mid 15th century by the Gobelins family, was reorganized in 1689, with both high-warp and low-warp workshops. The shift in 18th-century French taste can be tracked there. Dimensions were scaled back, and jolly subjects replaced the traditional myths. The palette was lightened and free rein was given to arabesque borders. Oudry's famous series depicting the Hunts of Louis XV provided an occasion for new studies into the use of colour.
