The Palace of the University of Genoa was home of the Jesuit College from 1640 to 1775. Because of its architecture and the numerous works of art it houses, it is one of the greatest examples of Genoese Baroque.
Among the most valuable historical and artistic classrooms of the College there are the Aula Ligure and the Aula della Meridiana. The former, formerly called the Domestic Oratory, represents a masterpiece of Baroque decoration by the Genoese painter Domenico Parodi, who created it between 1704 and 1709. The painter conceived a unitary decoration that uniformly covers the entire surface of the hall, where, among the fake marbles and illusionistic architectures created by the Bolognese quadraturist Aldovrandini, he always painted in trompe-l'oeil relief the effigies of the Virgin and the Jesuit saints.
