The machine was devised by Pierre Patte, the engraving was made by Benoît Louis Prévost (1735-1804) after Jacques-Raymond Lucotte (1733-1804). The engraving is Plate XXI in "Encyclopédie, ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts, et des métiers" by Denis Diderot and Jean le Rond d'Alembert (Paris, 1762-1773).
