Polyptych of St Augustine: Crucifixion

c. 1460
Tempera on panel, 37 x 41 cm
Frick Collection, New York

The predella of the Polyptych of St Augustine was originally formed by three panels now in the Frick collection, New York: St Monica, the Crucifixion and and Augustinian Saint. These panels are clearly reminiscent of Piero's synthetic style adopted for a small scale, which characterized the predella and the outer decorations of the Polyptych of St Anthony.
