Choir decoration

1695
Fresco
San Luca, Genoa

The decoration of the choir in the church of San Luca, Genoa, presents a mix of architecture, sculpture, and painting. The choir apse, painted by Domenico Piola and the quadratura painter Antonio Maria Haffner, is a masterful example of the unified painterly decoration of an elegant early baroque space. The fresco represents the Sermon of St Luke; St Luke Painting a Portrait of the Madonna and Presenting It to Her. On the altar Filippo Parodi's Immaculata is placed.
