The picture shows the copy of this famous group at its original place in the church of Santa Maria della Spina, Pisa. The statue, the first portrayal in Italian art of the motif of the Virgin suckling the Christ Child, is now conserved in the Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, Pisa.
