Santa Maria Maggiore: Exterior view of the apse area

Pope Clement IX concentrated on the design for the apse of Santa Maria Maggiore. The aging Bernini's proposal for the project was rejected in favour of Carlo Rainaldi's less commanding but more economical solution.
