Catalogue number: Bartsch 209. The Omwal, seen across the water, is the stroke of land between the Amstel River and the Diemermeer. Notice the lovers secluded in the shade of the trees. The Omwal was a favourite destination for holidaymakers and it had a reputation as a lovers' lane as well. Rembrandt's depiction of the place, one of his best known etchings, assured the Omwal of lasting fame. | |
