The young Tobit healing his father's blindness

c. 1642
Brown ink and wash, white body colour, 210 x 177 mm
Museum of Art, Cleveland

Catalogue number: Benesch 547.

This drawing is a study for the painting Tobit is Healed by His Son. There is a confusion regarding the names of the father and son. In the Book of Tobit (a book of scripture that is part of the Catholic and Orthodox biblical canon) father and son are so close that they even share the same name. Sometimes they are both called Tobias, sometimes the father is called Tobias and the son Tobit and sometimes the other way around.
